Big Urban Crunch opposed to Big Ban

reTHINK!NG architecture competitions

reTH!NKING philosophy
The reTH!NKING Team proposes contests far from the pessimism, with high doses of freshness and joy, restless and expansive. Definitively, it aims to stimulate and shake the architects heads who seem to be asleep and restore dignity to the profession. Being optimistic over all. The proposed competitions will be focused on 8 concepts which we think there is much to investigate and propose by architects. We understand that architecture can not be classified, as a single project reflects on various concepts relevant to contemporary culture, but enhance several of these main research topics.

PROPOSAL
The proposal, ambitious and fun, presents a new model of growth of the city, breaking with the ideals of expansion over the territory searching for higher density. A pattern more respectful with space that does not consume much ground, not fill the little space we have which change how the city is organized, rehabilitate the obsolete urban grid.

It is important to remember that as an ideas competition, not a full and complete formalization is required. We are interested in temporary processes that transform a sector of this spread city to other alternative. A rehabilitation process to a more green and sustainable urban ubanism. For this, the participant will have absolute freedom to pose any kind of interventio, ways of grouping, open spaces, parks, public spaces, ANYTHING.

The aim is to devise a strategy for urban rehabilitation on a fragment of this limitless grid with very low density (where has occurred sprawl phenomenon). We do not seek to demolish (houses, buildings, families), to propose on an empty plot a new city model. But how about a constructed reality (and lived) to promote a series of transformations that allow these same families over time, live better in a more sustainable and dense urban environment.

Yes we know, it is a great challenge, it is all about walking to a more sustainable living, more dignified and fair. The massive, serial and uncontrolled construction turns into houses poorly adapted to the needs of its users. It is urgent to find a formula to build a house without resorting to rigid industrialization without reflection. A flexible housing that allows accommodate families of different types that can be modified as needed, which can be chosen before inhabited. It is shown that a more compact growth produces less impact on the environment, we save in transport, construction, use of land... definitely the invasive dispersion is something to avoid, but what is the limit? What are the measures that ensure comfort, affordable and decent housing?

That's exactly the proposal launched, as progressive concentration over time while maintaining minimum that become maximum.
